Graduate Information

The Arizona Department of Education and Maya High School require a student to complete the minimum 22 required credits to receive a high school diploma.

The following table is a list of graduation requirements dictated by the Arizona Department of Education according to cohort class.

Students can choose to complete more than 22 credits and can be concurrently enrolled in a college course program. These credits may be used to determine the student’s GPA. College or university entry credits may vary according to the school. We suggest students who wish to attend a college or university research the entry or credit requirements to the school of their choice and notify the Success Advisor so that they are scheduled correctly. Students who earn and maintain a 3.0 GPA or above may be considered able to graduate with honors.

Graduation Ceremony Information

The Maya High School 2027 Graduation Ceremony will be held at The Glendale Civic Center located at 5750 West Glenn Drive, Glendale, Arizona 85301, on Thursday, May 20, 2027 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are required for each individual guest, which does include children. No entry without ticket.

Please read through the following information to prepare for the event.

Academic Standing:

By being listed as a Potential Graduate/Graduate, your child will need to meet the following in order to graduate this school year:

• They MUST maintain good attendance, PASS THEIR CLASSES and have no discipline issues for the remainder of the school year. If they are currently failing classes, they are at risk of not graduating in May.
• They MUST meet the 22 credit requirement set by the Arizona Department of Education.
• They MUST pass the Civics Test and complete an Intro to CPR to meet requirements set by the Arizona Department of Education.

It is vital for your student to have the full support of their families and the staff at Maya High School during this very important school year. We will make sure to communicate with you on all of the things listed above, but it will be the student’s responsibility to make sure they are meeting all these expectations. Graduation Rehearsal and Ceremony:

The Maya High School 2027 Commencement Ceremony will be held at The Glendale Civic Center located at 5750 West Glenn Drive, Glendale, Arizona 85301, on Thursday, May 20, 2027 at 6:00 p.m. Students will be required to attend our Graduation Rehearsal from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on the same day as the ceremony. Rehearsal is closed to the public and is mandatory to participate in the evening ceremony.

Cap & Gown (GRAD PACK)

Graduates will be able to pay for their Grad Packs starting April 5, 2027. The cost for each graduate will be $40, which includes the cap & gown, tassel, stole and 10 tickets with announcements to the ceremony. Grad Packs can be picked up in the office starting on Monday, May 5, 2027. We will be live streaming the ceremony on our Youtube Channel. Tickets are required for each individual guest, which does include children. No entry without ticket.

Graduate Dress Code:

Students will not be permitted to walk in the graduation ceremony without a school approved cap & gown. Professional attire must be worn underneath the gown.

• Young Men: slacks, button down shirt, tie, dress shoes.
• Young Ladies: dress, skirt, blouse, slacks, dress shoes. WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES if possible.
• Only school sponsored STOLES or HONOR CORDS will be permitted to be worn for the ceremony. Graduates with honors will receive their Honor Cords at check in.
• NO CELL PHONES OR PURSES ON STAGE (we will not hold for you)
• Graduates are not allowed to participate in the Graduation Ceremony dressed in: Jeans, T-shirts, muscle shirts, shorts, flip flops, house slippers, pajamas. If you need assistance in acquiring appropriate attire, please let us know.

Graduates Arrival for Graduation:

Graduates will be required to arrive at The Glendale Civic Center no later than 4:00 p.m. Graduates must check in immediately and remain in the graduate area. The graduation Class picture will be taken at 4:30 p.m., students that arrive late will not be in the picture if they miss the check in time.

Diplomas:

Diplomas are legal documents and as such, will be printed with the student’s legal name as it appears on their birth certificate. Graduates will only receive a diploma cover during the commencement exercise. Diplomas will be available to the students as they exit the main venue into the courtyard.

Photography:

Maya High School will Live Stream the graduation ceremony on our Youtube Channel. We will also take professional photographs of the Class of 2027 and the graduates receiving their diploma. The DIGITAL images will be sent to ALL the participating graduates for FREE within 3 weeks of the ceremony to their EMAIL. Students and parents are encouraged to download the images for future use. All images can be used completely FREE for reprint. The complete album will also be available on our website.

Guests will not be permitted to approach the stage or block any aisles during the ceremony to take pictures.

Guest Information:

The doors to the venue will open at 5:00 p.m. and close at 5:50 p.m. so that graduates can begin the processional. They will be reopened after the National Anthem, which might take up to 10 minutes AFTER the graduates have entered the venue. If you arrive late, please be patient so that we can ensure that the graduates are able to begin the ceremony without interruptions. The graduation ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. All guests will exit through the main entry and meet their graduates outside of the venue after the ceremony. Please do not approach the graduates until they receive their diplomas.

Items not permitted at the venue:

• Balloons,
• Food, Drinks
• Strollers
• Air horns

Items will be held in the back of the venue so that views are not obstructed.

What Classes Do I Need to Take?

The Arizona Department of Education requires that all students complete the minimum required credits for their graduating cohort class to attend any of the Maricopa Community Colleges. Students selecting to attend a University are also required to take 2 semesters of Language. ALL STUDENTS are also required to Meet or Exceed each section of the Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards (A.I.M.S) Exam to receive a High School Diploma. Below are the ADE Requirements according to Graduation Cohort Class.

How Important Are Grades?

Grades are very important. Earn good grades (As and Bs) each year to maintain a high Grade Point Average (GPA). A high GPA will benefit you when you are ready to apply for school and are applying for Financial Aid or scholarships! Some schools will allow you to enter their Honors Programs with and award you a scholarship if you have a high GPA. Study, do homework assignments, read, and practice writing. Most importantly, COMMUNICATE with your teachers! Do not assume you have a good grade, VERIFY!

How Will I Pay for College?

There are many options to help finance your education. Dedicate a few hours or days to researching your favorite college. Find out what type of financial aid or scholarships they offer. Or ask your favorite teacher if they know of any private scholarship funds you can apply for. Make sure you take advantage of Maya's Financial Aid workshops and be an activate participant in every step of the application process! You may qualify for the following:
