Maya High School is offering FREE Summer School classes to all MAYA Strong Students and high school aged community members. Students are able to participate in TWO classes during the summer session. Classes will begin on Monday, June 1, 2020 Monday through Friday until June 26, 2020.Typically, classes are from 8 AM to 2:30 PM. each day. However, this year classes will be held in an online setting, with teachers closely monitoring students' progress, hosting virtual meetings and communicating regularly with participants. Students will be provided with flexibility in completing their classwork each day, but the online setting requires that participants be diligent in working on their lessons regularly during the session. Please contact the MHS front office at 602-242-3442 for more information about Summer School.
This summer students at Maya High School will be able to select from two types of class offerings:
LEARNING TOGETHER courses require students to attend a virtual class meeting (video chat via Google) M-F, where they can interact with a highly qualified teacher and collaborate with classmates. Students complete classwork, assignments, and assessments in Google Classroom and other web based classroom assistants. Each course is worth 0.5 credit.
INDEPENDENT LEARNING (PLP/computer-based education) courses are self-paced online classes which utilize the Schools Personalized Learning Platform (PLP). Students participate in pre-assessments, lessons, practices, and assessments to demonstrate mastery of the AZCCR standards for a given course. While the course is self-paced, students will have daily access, Monday - Friday, to an assigned PLP instructor. Students will also be responsible for submitting electronically all notes. The grade and credit cannot be issued until student notes are submitted. Each course is worth 0.5 credit.
