Maya High School is proud to announce that Ms. Sandra Ortega, a teacher in the English language learner department, was selected as the recipient of an award to honor her commitment to education, presented by Pros Ranch Market. The event, hosted by Ranch Market on 35th Ave and Glendale, allowed hundreds of school aged students to receive free backpacks and school supplies. Maya High School students, graduates and staff members proudly volunteered to hand out supplies during this amazing event. The award recognized Ms. Ortega's work that has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help and assist children further their education. Ms. Ortega has also taken an interest in mentoring students and is constantly advocating for their education. This year, Ms. Ortega is not only teaching English as a second language, she is also focusing our graduating class on the importance of a post secondary education. The class, College Exploration, will teach students how to register for college, select classes, create resumes and much more. Maya High School acknowledges all the hard work Ms. Ortega does. Not only for our school and students, but for the community. Congratulations Ms. Ortega!
