Maya High School will offer a summer school session beginning June 11th. The three week course is available to all current Maya students, as well as withdrawn and new enrollments. Students that are graduating this school year are able to have their cap & gown picture taken by Wendy's Wedding Studio on Friday, April 6th, 2012. Pictures will be taken between 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The studio has affordable picture packages ranging from $20 to $40. For more information, please contact Nadia Barrera at 602-242-3442. Maya students will test for the Math portion of the AIMS test on Tuesday, April 10th, 2012. All 10th grade students and upperclassmen who have not yet passed are required to take the exam. The state of Arizona requires all students pass the AIMS tests in each subject area to earn their high school diploma. If you have an Student Council members will start selling tickets for Maya's 2012 Prom, which will be held at Salon Ferrari on Friday, April 13th. The theme this year is "A Sweet Affair", inspired by the boardgame Candyland. Students will be treated to a candy overload when they step into the venue, which will be decorated with the theme in mind. Students can purchase their tickets in the front office or with a member of student council starting March 23, 2012. Single tickets will be sold for $25, while Couple tickets will be sold for $40. Purchase your tickets soon! Last night, students in Ms. Schmoldt's 6th hour 3D Art Class where able to proudly display their art work in Maya's very first Art Show. Ms. Schmoldt transformed her classroom into an art museum, displaying pieces donated by her students, which were sold to raise money for the art club and program. Congratulation and job well done! Maya is proud of the artistic abilities of all our students! Next week, all students in grades 10th through 12th will be testing at Maya for the statewide AIMS Exam. Excluded from testing are 9th grade students and 11th and 12th grades students that have PASSED the reading and writing portion of the AIMS Exam. The Writing portion will take place on February 28th and the Reading on the 29th. It is mandatory for all students who have NOT Passed the exam to test. The girls were led in scoring by Tiandra, Charmaine and Latisha. Zipporah made a key Free Throw in the second half to help. The girls move on to the city championship next Tuesday. Congratulations girls! You make Maya proud. Maya is proudly displaying our student artwork on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. through the school's first art show. The show will benefit Maya's art program, through sales of donated student artwork. Many of the pieces on display are from Ms. Schmoldt's art classes from 1st, 2nd and 3rd block. Snacks and drinks will be available to parents, staff and visitors who come to support our school and our very talented students. Through PASS, you can view a students current schedule, their most recent class gradebook and their midterm grades. Last night the boy's basketball team brought home the first trophy of the post season winning the AAC Charter League Championship. Anthony Karaba led us in scoring with 16, Carlon had 12, Big Mike 10 and Brandon 8. Brandon was our leading re bounder and shot blocker with 10 and 4. Congratulations guys! |
